Over the past 20 years Bill has raced his cars successfully at tracks both in the UK and all over the civilised world.
The Green Cobra was campaigned with much success in the FIA GT European category for a number of years resulting in many podium finishes and championship successes.
In 1990, Bill and his car were amongst the drivers & cars invited to open the ‘AIDA’ circuit in Japan, which went on to host the Japanese F1 GP.
A foray into saloon cars saw the team building and running a Vauxhall Calibra in the ‘Thundersaloons’ series. A 7-litre all aluminium Rodeck-Pontiac engine made sure that the car was fast. An in-house designed and fabricated roll-cage and suspension made sure it was safe and went around corners. The car is still winning today in the hands of its new owner.
2005 saw Bill and the Cobra make the long haul back to the Cobra’s birthplace (The USA) to run a few races in the road series.
Due to business commitments, 2006 has been a bit short on racing, but we did manage to score two second places in an FIA round at Brands Hatch, and two seconds again in the Nurburgring ‘Old Timer’ Grand Prix.
The second Cobra (the orange car) was wheeled out for a two driver race at the Silverstone classic, but despite a superb effort in qualifying resulting in a front-row start the car nearly met its maker when it hit the Armco barrier on the second lap and punctured one of its fuel tanks.
We don’t currently race a Mustang, but it was quite fun to take our manual Supercharged GT demonstrator to Shakespeare County Raceway and see what it could do.
On a damp track with treaded tyres and no modifications (other than the supercharger) it ran a low 13 second quarter mile at 110mph. That’s Porsche performance for Mondeo money!! |
