ABOUT
First making it's debut at the 2019 Gerry Marshall Trophy, the Boss 302, piloted by Bill and 2x LeMans winner and Pikes Peak superstar, Romain Dumas, was instantly on the pace, taking a dominant pole position by seven tenths of a second. The race saw Romain in a constant 20-minute long, eb-and-flow, battle for the lead, before confusion at pit entry converted minor contact into a completely improbable retirement for the car.
The Boss Mustang returned for the 2020 Goodwood Speedweek, which hosted the Gerry Marshall Trophy later in the year due to the Covid-19 epidemic. This time it was the turn of Fred, Bill's son in his Goodwood debut to pilot the car, teaming up with 3x LeMans winner and Formula E star, Andre Lotterer. Unfortunately, a red flag in qualifying only saw Andre complete one flying lap, but an earlier banker saw the car line up on the second row. Fred started the race, carving his way up to take the lead on the fifth lap, to which Andre then extended the advantage of in his later stint. The car came across the line in first, marking a maiden win, both for the Boss and for Fred.
The Mustang has returned to the Gerry Marshall Trophy on numerous occasions since, every time finishing on the podium.
In 2021 a ding with the tyre wall in qualifying resulted in Fred starting the car from last on the grid in the heat-based knock-out race. Despite this, the car roared it's way through the pack, picking up an eventual third place in the Final classification.
